Environmental Protection and Engineering
Studenci kształceni są w ramach profilu ogólnoakademickiego. Praca współczesnego geologa wiąże się z wykorzystaniem szerokiej wiedzy i umiejętności wykraczających znacznie poza wąskie rozumienie nauk o Ziemi. Poszukiwanie nowych złóż kopalin i prowadzenie rozpoznania, dokumentowania i udostępniania złóż zostało znacznie ograniczone z uwagi na zmiany zachodzące w sektorze wydobywczym. Znaczącą rolę odgrywają zagadnienia związane z ograniczonością dostępu niektórych surowców (na przykład tzw. pierwiastki krytyczne), kosztów środowiskowych, produkcji i zastosowania nowych materiałów opartych na surowcach mineralnych innowacji w zakresie odzysku z odpadów oraz zdolności do podejmowania właściwych decyzji technologicznych i gospodarczych. Studenci oprócz pogłębionej wiedzy i umiejętności przygotowujących do prowadzenia badań naukowych, uzyskują również możliwość podjęcia pracy w firmach projektowych i wykonawczych z branży hydrogeologii stosowanej, geotechniki, gospodarki odpadami, odnawialnych źródeł energii, jako inżynierowie nadzoru zajmujący się ochroną i inżynierią środowiska, gospodarką odpadami, pracownicy działów rozwoju firm, a także jako specjaliści w działach związanych z ochroną i inżynierią środowiska oraz zagospodarowaniem przestrzennym w jednostki administracji rządowej i samorządowej lub instytutów naukowo-badawczych oraz w firmach konsultingowych. Studenci na studiach II stopnia mogą wybrać jedną z czterech specjalności: Geochemia przemian środowiska, Metody ochrony środowiska, Hydrogeologia stosowana i geotechnika oraz Mineralne materiały funkcjonalne. Absolwenci znajdują zatrudnienie w krajowych i zagranicznych firmach zajmujących się poszukiwaniem, dokumentowaniem i eksploatacją złóż kopalin, organach administracji państwowej i samorządowej, a także w przemyśle górniczym. Absolwenci mogą kontynuować studia na studiach II stopnia na tym samym kierunku lub na kierunku o zbliżonym profilu, co pozwola im na pogłębienie wiedzy i umiejętności praktycznych w zakresie wybranej specjalności. Po ukończeniu studiów absolwenci wszystkich specjalności mogą kontynuować kształcenie na studiach podyplomowych lub na studiach III stopnia
