The Geology of Natural Resources programme, offered by the Faculty of Geology, Geophysics and Environmental Protection, addresses the growing importance of natural resources in modern society, including the digital transformation, the energy transition, and Critical Raw Materials challenges. The curriculum has been designed to meet current and future labour market needs by preparing specialists for the modern raw materials sector — from prospecting and mineral exploration, through mining enterprises, to research institutions, consulting companies, and public administration. It is a programme for individuals interested in geology, the use of mineral resources, modern technologies, and the challenges of sustainable natural resource management.

The curriculum integrates classical foundations of Earth sciences with modern topics such as mineal exploration, geochemistry, geophysics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and geological data analysis and modelling. Students gain the knowledge and skills needed to evaluate the resource potential of geological targets and assess the environmental impacts of mining activities. The programme also covers issues related to resource recycling, circular economy principles, and the integration of environmental, economic, and social factors.

An integral component of the programme includes laboratory, project, and field classes conducted using the Faculty’s research infrastructure, in accordance with recognised procedures and standards used in contemporary Earth sciences. Students develop practical competencies in planning and carrying out geological works, sampling, laboratory analysis, and data interpretation. They also learn to use modern digital tools and specialised software widely applied in the raw materials sector.

Graduates are equipped with competencies in identifying and assessing mineral deposits, geological data modelling, and the application of GIS tools in exploration and documentation processes. They are prepared to work within the raw materials industry, including in the area of critical and strategic raw materials that play a key role in the development of a modern economy.
